TECH COMM
Assessment Guidelines
Determination of Grades.
Because writing constitutes participation within a community of practice, two assessment methods will be used in Technical Communication courses: document evaluation and performance evaluations.
Document
Evaluation.
Written documents (both print and electronic) will be evaluated using a holistic-scoring method. For each major assignment, students will participate in an assessment workshop designed to teach you how to apply criteria to a document both in terms of the writer’s participation as a member of a community of practice as well as the quality of the document.
Performance Evaluation.
Student participation in the community of practice will be evaluated using the performance criteria. These criteria are designed from a communities-of-practice model that emphasizes participation in practice.
Students will not necessarily receive the same score as the document. Students will receive a score based on their performance within a community of practice, whether the project is completed individually or collaboratively.
