Technical Editing
Official Course Description.
This course introduces students to the roles and responsibilities of technical editors: the editorial decision-making processes for genre, design, style, and production of technical information; the communication with technical experts, writers, and publishers; the collaborative processes of technical editing; and the techniques technical editors use during comprehensive, developmental, copyediting, and proofreading stages.
Course Objectives.

to assess, analyze, and address the editorial situation and appropriate audience;

to review a text for completeness, accuracy, and overall effectiveness;

to negotiate editorial decisions with publishers and authors;to apply the rules of language, usage, and grammar to the editorial situation;

to become familiar with editorial resources;

to create and follow a style sheet; and

to assess visual issues (document design and graphics) in terms of purpose, audience, content, and medium.
