Technical Communication Courses

ENGL 4790/8796 English Career Preparation (Spring 2012)

This course will help you prepare for an internship or a career, addressing topics such as finding and applying for internships, understanding the workplace and industry, creating a skills/ competency inventory, writing and producing a resume and cover letters, practicing interviewing techniques, and a statement of goals. Although open to all undergraduate students, this course is required if you plan to complete an internship. It is not required for graduate students, but is highly recommended.

ENGL/JOUR 4850/8856 Information Design (Spring 2012, Spring 2010)

This course builds on rhetorical and audience anlaysis skills focusing on design situations and projects, including both print and web design, particularly the principles of design, placement and organization of information, navigation, effective use of white space, page layout and typography.

ENGL/JOUR 4830/8836 Technical Communication (Fall 2011, Fall 2010)

This course introduces students to the practices of rhetorical and audience analysis as preparation for writing and producing technical documents. Content focuses on the characteristics and elements of technical communication, including definitions, descriptions, and instructions and focusing on paragraph and sentence development and document design.

ENGL/JOUR 4890/8896 Capstone Course in Tech Comm (Spring 2011)

This capstone course enables the student to work on individual and group projects that put into play the theories and practices of technical communication.  Students are expected to develop professional portfolios
